Get Help with Microsoft NetMeeting. Here are some frequent questions.
Q: How do I list myself in these directories so people will call me?
A: First start NetMeeting. If you are a XP user go to your start menu, then choose "Run" then type in "conf" and press "OK". Now you have NetMeeting running. Click on the "tools" menu at the top and choose "options." Edit your information so it is interesting so someone will be interested in calling you. Where it says "Directory" type in one of the ILS servers listed on our home page for example ils.videofrog.com. After you click "OK" it will ask you if you want to logon to the directory now. You can click "Yes" and then you are listed. Users are listed in alphabetical order so if you have a name like !fred you will be listed before a user named Alf.
Q: Why won't anyone answer my call?
A: Try changing your name to something that sounds more interesting. Nobody wants to answer a call from someone with a scary or boring name. Get a webcam if you don't have one. Webcam users like to talk to someone else they can see.
Q: I can see someone but they can't see me. Or my friend can see me but I can't see them.
A: One of you is most likely behind a firewall. To solve this problem you must remove the firewall software. This can be difficult depending on if the firewall is software based or hardware based.
Q: What is my IP address?
A: Go to the "help" menu at the top of your NetMeeting client. Click "About" and your IP address is listed at the bottom of the window. It will look something like this: 123.45.67.8. You can then give it to your friend over an instant messaging software and ask them to call you.
